Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal imbalance caused by the ovaries creating excess male hormones and causes a range of symptoms, including irregular periods, unwanted hair growth, acne, and weight problems. Symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome typically hyperandrogenism, chronic anovulation, and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound findings develop during puberty and worsen with time. This syndrome gets its name from the many fluid-filled sacs (cysts) that often develop in the ovaries, causing them to enlarge.
Most women with PCOS have too much prolactin and too little progesterone during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, resulting in oestrogen dominance irrespective of whether oestrogen levels are raised or not. This condition is called a luteal phase defect or corpus luteum insufficiency. A corpus luteum insufficiency is defined as an abnormally low progesterone level 3 weeks after the onset of menstruation. Insufficient levels of progesterone may result in the formation of ovarian cysts.
Most women with polycystic ovary syndrome can expect to gain excess weight. Obesity and overweight status contribute to insulin resistance. Producing too much insulin contributes to weight gain and makes losing weight difficult. Excess insulin due to insulin resistance may also cause skin in the armpits, on the nape of the neck, and in skinfolds to become dark and thick (a disorder called acanthosis nigricans).
Medications are used to regulate the menstrual cycles, stimulate ovulation and insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism and obesity associated PCOS. Different drugs are used in the management of PCOS with different symptoms, but effective treatment to manage PCOS is still a challenging.
POLYGEN is a unique blend of active herbs in a right proportion as per the to obtain a blend which can be targeted against multiple ramifications of PCOS in a holistic approach. Beneficial effect of POLYGEN on PCOS is due to the synergistic effect of the individual herbs which are known to exert their effect on the abnormal female reproductive system by various mechanisms like, reversion of estrus cyclicity, reduction in ovary volume and size of the cyst, antiandrogenic effect, decreased testosterone levels and restoration of the histology of ovarian tissue. Cimicifuga racemose binds with α oestrogen receptors, in the pituitary and reduces LH secretion, increases luteal progesterone concentration, Lowers LH in women with PCOS, Improves FSH:LH ratio for women with PCOS.
Tribulus terrestris promote regular ovulation and may reduce ovarian cyst. Glycyrrhiza glabra increases aromatisation of testosterone to 17 beta oestradiol shown by significantly dose dependent reduced testosterone and increased oestradiol. Paeonia lactiflora increases granulosa production of oestradiol, increases granulosa production of progesterone, reduces LH and improves ovulation rates in amenorrhoea. Mentha spicata, Grifola frondose and Pygeum africanum lower testosterone in women. Serrenoa repens (saw palmetto) shows anti-androgen effects in chronic pelvic pain and prostatitis, restoring the normal balance of estrogen–testosterone in the blood. Shatavari is found much effective to reduce PCOS, improve follicular growth, development and ovulation in clinical subjects.
Satawari helps promote the normal growth of ovarian follicles, modifies the monthly cycles. Wild yam contains a chemical called diosgenin, which can influence the production of several useful hormones in humans, such as estrogen or dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Actaea Racemose shows significant improvements in key gonadotropin markers such as LH and LH/FSH ratios. In addition, Actaea Racemose have been found to inhibit 5-alpha reductase, indicating that it may have benefits of skin and male paten baldness that exhibits symptoms of excessive testosterone in woman with PCOD. Chaste tree berry acts on the hypothalamus and pituitary glands inside brain by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) production and mildly inhibiting the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).
Key supportive nutrients such as Vitamins and minerals – Iron, Manganese, Zinc, Chromium, Magnesium, Boron, Inositol, Alpha Lipoic acid, CoQ10, B12, B6 and Folic acid, B12, B6, D3 are supplements which help to regularize hormones levels and improve PCOS symptoms. Inositol lowers LH, Prolactin significantly and improve LH/FSH ratio. Alpha Lipoic acid improves ovulation, serum progesterone levels and helps in insulin resistance. Folic acid supports myo-inositol found in the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) signaling mechanism and homeostasis of glucose uptake and helps to reduce elevated homocysteine levels due to PCOS. Chromium and Vitamin D3 helps to reduce fasting glucose and improve insulin sensitivity.
